28/01/2007 : Weekend Service with Dr. A.R. Bernard
Kristos Kai Kosmos
Jesus is not here to be above culture or to create a counter-culture but rather He is here to engage.
God gave the 5fold ministers
Apostles: to govern – the cooperation of the people is given to him
Pastors: to guard – provide, protect & the faith of the flock is given to him
Teachers: to ground – they build foundations and they maintain the preachers
Prophets: to give guidance – discernments of both the spiritual and secular is given to him
Evangelists: to gathers – they have the charisma to win people
In the Old Testament, prophets are given the gift to have greater interaction with the society. Usually they proclaim more than they predicts. It the God’s word over the society and not mere foretelling
A pastor, on the other hand, is like a shepherd. He guards the flock and he is usually a very careful man as he knows our respect and faith in him open our hearts to the people he invites. Although other will feel that a pastor controls instead of guarding.
Kristos Kai Kosmos: a prophetic insight over the society
The immediate penetration of the word is crucial as God knows that it is easier to use something spectacular to motivate you into doing God’s will.
I.E. the burning bush got Moses walking in great faith for his entire life
Matt 19:16-26
This rich man is asking which commandments to obey: he is being selective on his obedience to God’s commandments
Jesus gave the man 5/10 of the commandments
Jesus left out the other 5: which was about putting God 1st in our lives
The man put money as his 1st, that’s why he was only able to obey 5/10 of the commandments: which are the character building commandments
Jesus is not against us having money but against money having us
Note: the disciples were astonished by Jesus’ statement, as they are not the poor people. If they were, they wouldn’t be shocked by Jesus’ statement
When we are with Jesus, He will bring money to good use with you. So don’t worry, you will have money
Lk 6:12
The 12 disciples were the apostles: they were given the role of governing
Not a single preacher was picked! And they are all marketplace people. Not from the temple. Because the marketplace is where the real influence of the society is happening. It where policies were made!
Peter & Andrew: tax-collectors
Simon: Jew – politician
Mark: doctor – rich
Jesus is trying to start a new revolution of engaging the culture
The gospel can be preached better when you live out a lifestyle that is of a good standard
James & John: rowdy people, but Jesus nonetheless took them as His disciples as they’re of the marketplace and most importantly they love Him
Because the marketplace has never set the standard for the church => so Jesus wants to impact the marketplace with the marketplace people. Changes comes to society not because you’re in deep relationship with God but because we are in the marketplace
There is difference between the following words
- Secular: activities outside the church that are not in conflicts with the temple
- Secularism: a spirit that seeks to stop people from going to church
- Secularisation: the spirit of taking over an institution (the Pharisees)
The temple of God holds God’s standard for everyone: the 10 commandments tablets
We, as Christians, are responsible of bringing God’s standard into the society so as the temple of God; we cannot lower our standards as judgement starts from the temple. God will judge us 1st!
We’re now the temples holding His standard to go into the society. I.E.: marketplace
So we must reveal Him in our daily life
We have 2 ministry areas: in the temple and in the marketplace
Institutions becomes secularisation when it stops people but themselves

21/01/2007 : The Culture Mandate II ( in the process of editing)
The Culture Mandate II
A typical Christian's mindset is usually separated into a secular & sacred partitions
Sacred/ Secular divide - Private/ Public divide (Both limit God)
Christian Schizophrenia Secular job -> not important; only to bring food home
Sacred job -> only praying; worshipping;
World view mindset - Pagan Mindset
We're not just saved in our hearts to continue have a pagan mindset just to excel & survive in the world
1 Cor 2:16
Medieval Church - influenced by Plato (& other philosophers)
· Material world is evil & unclean
· Free mind from the evil of the physical body & senses
· Prayer & meditation superior to ordinary work
· Marriage & sex despised (The holy practices celibacy)
· The committed rejects secular & withdraw to monasteries
Act 17:16-18
"Epicureans" (reject world)
"Stoics" (reject emotions)
24,26,: creation
29: fall
30: redemption
" Christian worldview" fundamental dimension
Creation -> Gen 1:1
God is the source of everything
Fall -> God's material world is still intrinsically good
Rom 14:14
Pervasion of good
Redemption -> Fixing the broken down areas & restoring
Gen 1:28 Culture mandate
God has given every believer special gifts to make a unique contribution to the
Entire Human Redeemed

God's common grace is the prevalent route to God's saving grace
Eternity is the continuation of Gen 1 but without the sin problem
Greater purity intensity & glory
How to keep Christianity in balance?
Do not focus only on the fall of man

If not we'll be stuck
Don't only focus on redemption either : perfectionism; triumphanism; Asceticism; monasticism

14/01/2007 : How Shall We Live
How Shall We Live?
World view = sum total of our understanding of the world
General Christians' worldview
1. There is a Creator
Everything belongs to God & is subject to Him
2. We are fallen
Sin entered into mankind
3. Redemption
Jesus! Word made flesh = logos
4. Restoration
As such we're to fulfill the following
1. Develop culture
2. Built civilization
2 Pet 3:9
Eez 33:10
Jer 29:4-7; 11
Justification of the culture mandate:
Gen 1:28
Day 6: fruitful & multiply
We can either contribute to the broken down-ness or bring a piece heaven to this earth
How can we contribute?
3 ways -
1. Know the word (logos)
Morals laws
Laws of logic
Principle of rules & communication
Jn 1:1-3
Logos = Sum total of all ideas & thoughts order of the world universal
2. Apply the word (logos)
Root of culture is our beliefs system
Heb 11:3
3. Live the word (logos)
Col 3:9-10
11 mindset of a new man
· Socially responsible - vs. selfishness
Not just about us! Gal 5:14
· Innovative - vs. indolence
1 Cor 2:16
· Nett giver - vs Nett taker
Jn 3:16; Lu 12:15-2; Pro 19:17; 2 Cor 9:7-9
· Globalizes - vs Gullible
Mk 16:15; Acts 1:8
· Advanced – vs "arrested development"
· Problem-solver – vs Problem-maker
1 Jn 5:4; Mk 9:23
· Opportunity-seeking – Opportunity-shunning
Do not be fearful 2 Tim 1:7 The cairos moment
· Resilient – vs Resistance
Rom 5:3; Col 6:9
· Educated - vs empty-headed Acts 7:22; Matt 22:37 life long learner Vincent Gomez
· Adaptable - flexible Matt 12:7 (MSG) Mk 7:13
Traditions that will trap us
· Nation Conscious - Narcissus is excessive self-love, self-absorption or vanity
Saved from the world to engage the world
Thus we can change from the
OLD -> NEW
Selfishness -> Socially Responsible
Indolence -> Innovative
Nett Taker -> Nett Giver
Gullible -> Globalised
Arrested in Thinking -> Advanced in Thinking
Problems -> Problem Solver
Opportunity-shunning -> Opportunity-seeking
Rigidity -> Resilient
Empty-headed -> Educated
Apathetic -> Adaptable
Narcissism -> Nation Conscious

07/01/2007 : The Cultural Mandate (still in editing mode)
The Culture Mandate
1916 Survey: 60% theater owners wanted pictures more suggestive
But in 1980s ago Contemporary Christians think that the world wants wholesome entertainment as they’re sick of being the world. But 20 yrs later it is only still a dream:
Example: Pax TV by Founder Loweel “Bud” Paxson who came up with some wholesome movies: Touched By an Angel, Highway to Heaven, Dr. Clean – Medicine Woman, Promised Land etc. But it got sold off in yr 2002 as viewer-ship drop to 1%!
On the other hand, “Titanic” was warned by Christian leaders that moral Americans may be offended by the foul language, brief female nudity, implied fornication and some scary scenes.
Yet it was the highest grossing movie in history!
CCM was born in 1980s as gospels music wanted to cross over & to penetrate 90% untapped market
CCM was to appeal to believers who don’t got to Christian bookstores
But CCM remains being only mainly sold in Christians bookstores today.
Why?
Example: Amy Grant is 1 of the 1st to cross over. She focused on wholesome romantic love songs instead of gospels. 1991 ‘Baby Baby’ sold 5millions but protests started as the religious Christians wants her to sing only about the worship & faith of God. So many CCM musicians went back to their church. After Amy Grant, never again did any CCM music ever reach her success.
What happened? Why has Christians productions been so ineffective in crossing over & influencing the world?
Even Christians don’t like Christian music!
Reason:
1993 survey 80% Christians go to the movies
This is what Christians think about our contemporary Christians culture?
Christians Popular Arts
· Inferior Imitation - an imitation of real entertainment, many Christians artists wants to preach instead of attaining excellence in the entertainment sense
· Sanitized Version - not close to reality, only about worship & evangelism – only for family-orientated themes
· Limited in Purpose & Content - only about evangelism & loving God
Basically too wholesome & too preachy. Not in touch with reality
We want entertainment to talk to us about life but with some artistic flare in it. The daily temptations of life & how we deal with it?
But just like the world, Christians is interested in love, relationships, marriage, life, health, careers, finances, global economy wars & peace, politics, our future etc.
Popular arts help us to navigate through life
Band ‘U2’ music talks about concern for war, injustice & poverty
Good Will Hunting: Explore difficult issues of life
Matrix: Invisible world behind the natural world
Schindler list: Courage, Sacrifice & Racism
Shawn Sang Redemption: Hope & Fear
I not Stupid 1 & 2: Rat Race in Society
Christian movies are boring….only about the above!?!
But how many of us actually realize that the essence can be found in the bible?
"Writings" of Bibles
· Psalms – songs of frustration, anger, doubt, etc. : the Blues Billboard
· Job – sufferings of life, wants to find meaning in life: movie ‘signs’
· Proverbs – dangers of shortcuts, rewards of honesty: the Simpsons
· Ruth
· Song of Solomon – love & sensual: Pop billboard; celebration of sex (which is holy & a gift from God) & the sensual
· Ecclesiastes – weariness of imperfections in daily life: NYPB
· Lamentations – dealing with grief: Eric Clapton
· Esther – tribute to women
· Daniel
· Ezra
· Nehemiah
· 1-2 Chronicles
Popular Songs, Dramas & Musical
Cultural communicates to us about life
3 Things about Culture
· Culture is an integral part of the human soul
- 2000 Survey 80% of born again Christmas – 7 times more hours each wk watching tv, spend twice more money on entertaining, spend more time surfing the internet then praying or worshiping or buying Christians materials. We consume the mainstream culture – it’s normal
· God speaks through culture
- ''culture" = shared beliefs, values ,ideas, attitudes, assumptions, customs, practices & social behavior of a particular group, nation or people
· God has given us the cultural mandate - Ps 115:16 -> create cultures & build civilizations
- has the same
Gen 1:28
Be fruitful: develop the social world
Harness the natural world
Ps 119:91
Gen 2:7
We’re given a soul, not just a body & a spirit
7 Needs of Human soul
· Spirituality
· Love
· Self-esteem
· Knowledge
· Security
· Beauty (Aesthetic - sensitive)
· Freedom
We use pop culture to help us navigate through the complexities of life, expression of ourselves, etc.
Is pop culture dangerous?
· Mk 7:1-5
· Mk 7:14-16
· Mk 7: 21-23
Outside influence has no immediate spiritual effect on its viewers, it's the cumulative effects of these influences when you decide to keep them in your circle of influence & allow it to sweep into your heart & become your value systems
Ps 96:12
Do trees sing literally? No, but their existence celebrate the presence of God. They are an important role in the eco system
Col 1:16
Isa 4:28

· Be bold to engage culture
· When common grace is at work, celebrate it!

There's never a perfect condition than now!

We will never know the long-term effects of our words, ministering, etc.
Just do something good!
Anything good!
Impact someone!

1. The voice of Criticism
People will put you down, but you're made in God's likeness!
2. The voice of Doubt
Circumstances can be intimidating but you have God!
3. The voice of Selfishness
To get, you need to give!
To receive, you need to share
4. The voice of Limitation
God is of no limitation!
5. The voice of Faith
God can prosper you!
We have unlimited possibilities with God!
Let down our nets!
Lk 5:5
There's no victory without a fight!
Don't be battle-weary! You just might miss the miracle catch!
Discouragement is not dissatisfaction
Do not be ready to give up!
Simply be dissatisfied!
Let down our financial nets!

20/08/2006 : The Power of the Mind
The Power of the Mind
Mid-life crisis = common to everyone; a period of emotional turmoil in middle age characterize by a strong desire for change
God do everything based on a pattern or a system, broad principals
We could work with it or ignore it
Relationship is the network for life
Resources is the other gift for life
Advancement in life is usually build on relationships
The quality & not quantity of these relationships determined our advancement
We are effective by the company we keep
Your friends' intimacy with you has to change as we move on in life if your friends are not willing to move on
All relationships begin with an introduction, then acquaintance, then friendship (sharing more intimate details of our life) & intimacy.
Not all relationships go thru the entire process
Few relationships moves into the stage of intimacy (a state of openness & vulnerability to another person)
Any disrupt in the process will mean that you have to suffer the consequences of the disruption: Death
Death begins with Dis-ease
Should we value a relationship but sins against it, do not wait to repent & ask for forgiveness:
Delay increases distance
The longer we wait, the further it will be between you & that person.
Distance is not measured in miles but in the amount of affection found in the relationship
Adam was created to be in an intimate relationship with God but when he sins against the relationship, death steps in!
Many efforts are needed to be put in, in order to restore the relationship
Abraham moved from introduction to acquaintance to friendship with God (he's called God's friend) but never moved into intimacy.
General revelation: based on His creations
Specific revelation: when God come down as a human: Jesus
Pattern is created to bless us not cursed us
Jn 1:
Knowledge is power
Knowledge of truth is even more power
Knowledge translates into authority
Lk 11:52
Counseling is meant for people who has problem implementing their training
Most people require training not counseling.
Many times we steps into things without information about it. (Often people rush into marriage without knowing what covenant it holds nor going through the 4 stages of a relationship)
How to train our mind?
Note: Our Mind = most powerful computer in the world
It can turn information into beliefs that will impacts our self-esteem, of which we will start to act it out (actions/behavior), which will produces resets which turns into habits which determined our success or failures
But to change the end, we need to start from the top. I.E. - renew the way our mind takes in information
Rom 12:2
Moreover we also need new information to renew our minds
Every decision is based on the information we have at that time & the way we think
But good information can be stop by bad minds
How does God reacts when Adam 1st sin?
He hits on information immediately! He asked,” who told you that…"
(note: whenever we ask a questions, it either to obtain information or to stimulate a thought; God never asks for information)
Jn 1:1-5
Thus when God wants to redeem us, He sent His word, Jesus which is God’s word! A new information!
But look at the parable of the wheat & the tares
God’s word is sow in people (the wheat) – Jesus step into our world
The world also contains Satan’s words in people (the tares)…they both co-exist. But does God removes the tares? No, because God is confident of the Word He has placed in us. Thus He is not afraid of co-existing with the wheat (His believers) co-existing with the tares (Satan’s lies) even when the tares’ roots are wrapped around the wheat’s root. Thus although we are immersed in the world, but we do not have to fear not worry as we’ve God’s word in us & we can be confident that the word can stand up against Satan’s lies.

19/08/2006 : Kristos Kia Kosmos
Kristos Kia Kosmos
Definition of world in Greek
1. Aion - age; period of time
2. Oikumene - land
3. Kosmos - order & arrangement of things; social order
Mk 16:15
The growth of Rev. Dr. A.R. Bernard’s church -
1978 - 1985: 4->300
1985 -1989: 300->625
1989-1999: 625->11k
1999-2006: 11k -> 27k
God has specific visions for everyone
God is a God of orders
Convictions of A.R. Bernard
1. Order - harvest is expected when we plant because of order (seasons come & go but they’ll never disappear; & physics never change which results in great inventions (like the sound systems of a concert)
Kosmos - original meaning: order of God
God created the world out of nothing thus He is actually not confined by this world yet because He created it thus the universal cannot be divorce from Him
He created an Open universal - free will (freedom & power of choice)
Why? Because God is love & there is no love without freedom of choice! So He took the risk!
2. Love is centered on the will not the emotions.
Thus God can command us to love Him, our parents, our friends, etc.
Thus we cannot fall in or fall out of love - cause it is a choice
The power to choose: Positive freedom
We are not free until we have the power to choose
If the universal is ordered, thus our choices have power: it can affect the universal
Yet Adam's choice re-orders the order God originally has put; so does this mean God is not sovereign?
No, because God is the alpha & the omega
He knows the beginning & the end!
Jesus was already prepared for Adam's choice
We cannot disobey without obeying
When Adam disobey God, he is obeying himself
Thus my choices determined my future - be careful about it!
We may end up being servants to our choices
Making better choices is based on the information we have & the way we think
It is essential that we take responsibility of our choices, least we blame other for our plight
Jh 1:1
Beginning - arché – the 1st cause
Word: logos (Gk.) - logikos - intelligence - mind
Thus this verse meant that - In the beginning is the mind of God & it cause & affect universal
Jesus was the mind of God: John saw beyond the physical body of Jesus because he saw the understanding of God
Jesus is the expression of God's mind!
Jh 1:4
Jesus was the light of men!
Every cause is an effect
Every effect has a cause
Some long-termed effects are so long that you don't know what are the causes anymore.
Jh 1:3
All: pas (Gk.) (everything! Even the things in decline - us!)
Jh 1:10
In Kosmos: God enter His creation without changing anything about Himself but Kosmos don't recognize it: it has changed so much that it don't recognize the creator anymore!
Jesus wants to re-order His creation or this chaos
Matt 19
Society is trying to re-order God's divine order
Sin is trying to influence our choices
But when we acknowledged our sins, Jesus starts to re-order our mind!
Every time we try to break from God's divine order, we malfunction
For example: God took out of man to make woman & never replace it thus it is not in man to be a woman. Often when we see a man wanting to be a woman, he is usually more feminine than a woman. Because in order to be recognized as a woman, who he is not, the man has to exaggerate his actions in order obtain that recognition.
Divine order leads to freedom
My life becomes free when I organize my life
Effectiveness in life demands order
Order demands a clear plan of actions
Trusting God is proactive not passive thus we need to make an impact on our society!
Acts 17:16-21
Kristos Kai Kosmos = Christ in Culture
Epicurean: believers of pleasure
Stoic: believers of fate
Areopagus: highest council in Athens
Athens is ever listening for new ideas
Acts 17:22-23
God is ever working & He has planned Paul to pass by Athens. Although Paul did not plan to stay in Athens yet when the opportunity arises Paul knows what to say & how to say
He also saw an opening in these people who believed they have an unknown god waiting to be discovered
Acts 17:24-28
We have to know that living, moving & having movement is not just about Christians but everyone!
We move in divine order whether we know or not.
But it is a matter of Common grace or special grace.
Common grace states that the sun shines on the just & unjust, while the special grace talks about God’s favor with His people. How Paul was able to preach in Athens unlike any other.
Acts 17:32:34
Only a few were saved…but who was the 1 saved?
Dionysius = devoted to dionysus (a Gk. god of fertility, entertainment & arts)
Western drama (arts & entertainment) is birth in the celebration of dionysus since 5B.C.
It gets arts & entertainment into the church
When Rome took over & it became pure entertainment after Rome falls, but later it entered church & for many years drama centered on the Christian faith
We never know when will we change lives but we cannot deny that we are the instruments of God to change lives. Paul never knows that Dionysius’ salvation symbolizes so much when he preaches that message and got Dionysius saved.

18/08/2006 : God in Culture in the Person of Jesus Christ
God in Culture in the Person of Jesus Christ
Educate, encourage & empowered
Lk 11:52
Knowledge is the key in life
We're limited by our knowledge in our attitude & character
Christ in culture
Four stages in Life that we go through as a believer
1. Nature: do not know God
2. Unlearned: saved
3. Carnal: know God but live like a nature
4. Spiritual: maturity
There're general & specific revelations in the world
This universal of law & order tells us that there's intelligence out there!
We need to move from this general revelation to specific revelation of ourselves
So God will want us to know what exactly He wants us to do as His children: a specific revelation of us in God with Jesus
As Israel gets baffled by the way Jesus reveals Himself as the Messiah the church become the agent to show who God is
We need to represent to the world who is Jesus - & methods of representation has changed
Visions should determined the methods
Let it be a dynamic representation! A Prophetic voice!
2 different Prophetic models:
1. Antagonistic: cries out & spares no one (Isaiah)
2. Relationship - Joseph & Daniel: do not go against but work changes in the society
Daniel was also a provision for God's people yet was greatly respectable by non-believers
Daniel understands the way of the Babylonians but he did not eat their food!
Jer 29:11
As we seek to be prophets for the Lord in the world in the future, we can face our future with 2 kind of attitude
Either with apprehension - because of internal fear,
Or anticipation - because of faith.
Jer 29:4-7
Jeremiah was in captivity by Babylon & God gave this hope!
Captivity is not the issue!
Because God thrive in anywhere!
It says in the scriptures to pray for peace of the country so that you will also have peace & prosperity!
It's now!
Pentecost says the spirit will be pour over all flesh!
Not just believers!
See the goodness & orders in chaos!
Relationships precede our ministry!
We can’t speak into lives of others when there is no trust between people
We're living in Babylon now!
We've work to do!
The people in the world are our mission!
The word ‘World’ has 3 different meanings in the Greek language
Matt 13:22
1. World: aion (Gk.) [age (Eng.)] - a period of time in human history marked by distinctive characteristic & achievements = Culture
Currently the world’s culture overshadows God’s word
But do not worry! We're protected! By Jesus who is in us!
Matt 13:39
Matt 24:14
2. World: oikumene (Gk.) - land, territories
God wants us to conquer different in His name
Mk 16:15
3. World: Kosmos (Gk.) - social order & arrangement of things: politics, education, economics, church, family, arts & entertainment
These 7 aspects are recognized to be the pillars of any society & we can seek understanding of any society by studying these 7 pillars of institutions.
They also tell you the spiritual health of the society
Love not the Kosmos (social order) but preach to them!
Jesus brings a new social order to the sinners!
We should be the experts of the marketplace: build it not destroy it
We do not lead people whom we fear
This is a world of negativity but we do not need to fear it & hide behind the church walls
Matt 12:28
We do not fear as Jesus has brought the future kingdom of God into the present through His miracles
Lk 10:8-9
Not the fullness nor the totality but it is the future experienced now!
So whenever we do Jesus' miracles, we're bringing the Kingdom of God into the presence
Ignorance is weakness
The only reason for ignorance in our times is stubbornness = refusal to be taught
Pro 1:11
Articulate our faith! We can only run with what we can read & understand.
Symbiosis = living together in close association of 2 dissimilar entities
Our greatest value to God is not going heaven but here!
So we were to live in the world but not of the world!
Freedom comes from active submission to God = thru Him, we have power
How not to be consumed by the world
By being in touch with the Word, wisdom & character of God!

There is a divine call to pulpit ministry
There is an equally divine call to marketplace ministry

The Path to regional transformation lies in Acts 19 - Epheusus
Paul (pulpit minister) works with Priscilla & Aquila (marketplace ministers)
Acts 18:12-19
God reassured Paul that his work in the marketplace is good.
2. He set a business
3. The key role of extraordinary business

Jh 15
Friends of Jesus
Heb 11:6
Mato 13:23
Faith is needed in 3 people during the healing
Mk 16:18
1. The one praying: it can be supernatural
2. The one receiving: even if it's 1 side only
3. The one standing in the gap: the centurion, the one asking
We limit God when we don't pray

09/07/2006 : The RQ Factor Part B
The RQ Factor Part B
Believe in the word of God not others' opinions
Physical quotient = PQ
Ps 37:25
2 Cor 4:18
Hos 4:6
Destroyed because of ignorant
Ignorant = you chose to ignore it
Rom 15:4
Quotient means its measurable
RQ = Relationship quotient
If you don't make use of your RQ the following will happen:
1. When you get older, you will get very lonely
2. You will live the center of your life & be very selfish & without achieving the destiny of your life
It is the height of deception and arrogance to believe that we determine the outcome of our lives. While in truth, they are determined by those whom we granted access to
Satan can only plans for your distraction not your destruction
Granted access = allowed that person's voice to be influencing you, to be in you
Matt 4:1
The 1st thing that God do when we are saved He kill us
We love people, around us, mores more than God does
Good does not influence evil, evil influence good
How many of us really become what God wants us to be?
1. Every relationship has both rules to enter & remain
Est 2:15-17, Mk 8:34-35
2. I love you so much that I'd rather you dislike me for telling you the truth than for you to love me for telling you lies
Gal 4:16; Pro 27:6; Gal 12:11-14
Rom 15; Gal 6:1
3. Your future is completely dependent upon the quality of people you call 'friend'
Pro 13:20, 2 Chr 20:35-37
Evil is a persuasion while good is a choice
Evil in the sight of the Lord: allowing evil in your life; not murderer or rapist; these are evil in the sight of men
We've been given a gift to influence others
4. The value you place on any relationship is immediately revealed by the price you are willing to pay for it
Matt 10:37-38; Luk 7:37-50
5. Your seed is the only influence you have over your future

Matt 16:13-19;21-23
What made Peter rebuke Jesus?
1. Because he love Jesus
2. Because he has given up everything to follow Jesus
Matt 16:24-27
To follow Jesus is no easy task. There're no shortcuts!
Peter sounded just like satan during the temptation: easy way, instant success
Gen 3:5-6
We all have desires to be successful, wise & all-knowing, but we all hope we can get it without any hard-work, easily, instantly...
Matt 16:5-12
God is a God-of-more-than-enough!
What matters is the doctrines of God
We must know that God's way is the cross-way
Matt 16:25-26
When I do not know who God is, I will make foolish choices, I will settled for something lesser, I will take the easy-way-out.
I will lose my calling
Exo 32:1
They lost their vision, Moses, they lost their future, Promised Land, they return to their familiarities: idolatry, area of bondage
We cannot be dismayed by giants in life, do not forget that we've a giant living in us too
Matt 26:6-16
It was for Jesus' burial
To Judas, Jesus was a breadwinner
He know finances were pouring in through Jesus' ministry
He tried to cut his loses...he don't know who Jesus is & he made foolish choices & settled for something lesser: 30 pieces of silver
Matt 26:33-35;57-58
Jesus was Peter's vision & he had given up everything to follow Him.
Matt 26:69-75
Peter's attitude change as he feel his vision got threatened: he refused to be even associated with Jesus
Jhn 21:1-3
Peter went back to his area of familiarity: fishing
Jhn 21:4-14
Deja vu happened!

Omission
Omnipotent
Lk 5:2

Lk 5:3
Jesus walk into the boat of simon's life & simon is about to encounter destiny
Rom 10:17
Destiny is found in God's word
Many voices is fighting for your attention
1. The voice of criticism
But look at God's promises for you!
2. The voice of doubt
But nothing is not important of you to God! Even your hair is important!
3. The voice of selfishness
In order to get, we need to give!
4. The voice of limitation
But there's also
5. The voice of faith
In God all things are possible!
If you let the 1st 4 voices affect your initial failures, then you'll never reach your destiny.
You can be dissatisfied but not discourage
Dissatisfaction is because you know you can achieve more!
Discouragement is Satan's way of pull you into his dump
Faith is spell RISK
It takes risk to have faith
Simon Peter remains the only other person than Jesus in the past 2000 years to walk on water

21/05/2006 : Daniel Among The Babylonians
Daniel Among The Babylonians
Jh 17:14-17
We don't embrace the 7 deadly sins & don't have the spirit of the world
But Jesus doesn't ask of us to be removed from the world only to be protected from the evil.
He wants us to be cleansed
Matt 5:13-16
Jesus wants us to do His work! To mingle with a Godly-attitude!
How has God reacted to temptations?
God placed the tree of the knowledge of good & evil in the middle of the garden fully knowing that it has the ability to tempt Adam. So why didn't God chopped down the tree?
Innocence is not virtue
Virtue is not innocence
Virtue is innocence TESTED
Then will you have power over temptations
So we're still in this world:

Matt 9:37-38
Everything of God, (faith, power, courage, etc.) is build on the foundation of prayer
So we have to pray! The whole-mindedness kinds, not just the constant rumblings we do in the day
Prayer is relating to Jesus & communing with God
Prayer is about relationshipping with God & getting to know God
He is the most important thing in our life
Matt 10:1
Everyone will do something for God but it's different to do something of God
We must pay the price of prayer to do His works

Igniting Your Spiritual Passion
Rom 12:9-18;11 (diff versions)
We're saved & called by God. Have a purpose & the passion to serve that purpose
Zeal = fervency
Passion is a fire that is inside that affects outside
God works on a perpetual enthusiasm!
75% of the US presidents ranks in the lower rank of IQ
50% of the Fortune Magazine CEOs averages C- in school
Intelligence is cool but passion makes the difference
Enthusiasm & persistent makes an average person superior while indifference & lethargy makes a superior person average
4 passion-killers

26/03/2006 : Crossing the Line
Crossing the Line
A "Paradigm" is the way you are used to thinking & doing things
If we get stuck in a past successful paradigm too, then we'll never move on! Especially in the Christianity circle: we must be willing to step across the line
Mk 4:35
Over the different barriers in life: spiritual,
Conformity is the shortest route to acceptance in a crowd
The crowd loves low-risks
Christians today are living in a paradox: we want to live with meaning & adventures in our lives but we want to be in our safety net too!
What lines do we need to cross?
1. The Line of the UNKNOWN
Heb 11:8
Want a boring life? Just repeat what you've done yesterday ;)
2. The Line of the IMPOSSIBLE
Mk11:11-12
All things can be arranged
"God delights in the impossibility" - Charles Spurgeon 1834-1892
If your job is nothing special, why do it in the 1st place?
3. The Line of POSITIVE AFFIRMATION
Don't depend on others' encouragement & praises when you want to do something great for God
Est 4:14-16
Heb 11:13
Abraham died doing something that he never personally saw
He did it for the future generations!
It's not about reaching the destination but the journey
4. The Line of the PULL of the World

Pharisees: hypocrites!
They were also badly exposed by Jesus for their hypocritical characters & they were disgusted by His kind attitude towards sinners
Jn 8:4-6
The Pharisees thought that it's a good chance for them to trap Jesus with this scenario
Jn 8:7-9
Many scholars agree that Jesus was probably writing the 10 commandments & the Holy Spirit convicted their hearts of their sins through the confrontation of the 10 commandments
And just like them, all of us has sins in our lives
The only person justified to stone was Jesus
The woman know in her heart that Jesus was the only person who is worthy of stoning her
But Jesus set the woman free!

The Upward Call
Phil 3:7-14
Paul's expression of his lifestyle
What are we call to?
1. Be like Jesus
Not to only just do something but to be someone
People to see the attitude, personality of Jesus thru us
What's our perspectives of live? To make decisions in life when circumstances arise! We'll not only be moved by circumstances but we should have the perspective of eternity just like Jesus! We have to realise that we're not naturally made for heaven, instead our life is a journey of preparation. So we must be serious with our Salvation.
2. Bear fruits for Jesus
With the Holy Spirit
Phil 1:4
We'll do many things for God but there'll be 1 or 2 things that we've been ordained by God to do & will be especially good with it

Heart of God has times & seasons of God
If we understand the seasons of our lives, we can know where are heading
Be expected for the change of seasons in our lives
So know when are you in the right seasons, doing the right thing with the right people
Timing is everything
So the church must always know the seasons that they're in
Gal 6:7;9
Don't miss the elements of the seasons! Strength! Prayers!
Our life will get better!
Seasons will also leaves, do not bother to stop it. But flow with it!
Let it takes charge of you
We're not always in the harvest season; there're always seasons of preparation & sowing.
So do not panic if you're not reaping yet!
But always be prepared for a change!
Sense it! Walk in peace! Don't be bothered by it! Just flow in peace!
Be excited by it!
Zec 10:1
Like the latter rain! A much awaited rain!
Grass is the abundance of life!

Change is, of course, not always good
Must be able to make every season of your life productive!
The Church has been moving in the shekinah glory of the Lord since history!
Former rain => beginning of life
Season of dryness
It's a coordination of the body of Christ that makes things happen
We're in the season of the latter rain: revival of Asia!
Plant a seed wherever you go!
It's eternal! & in the end-times, it will explode like never before!
