Holy Spirit
Acts 1:8
The power(s) of the Holy Spirit
1. Build good relationship with others
He will help us to love others (even people that you usually dislike)
Help us to recognise the grace others have shown us
Col 6:9
God does not want us to keep our hates within ourselves - it will only make us sick
2. (give us) Heavenly Wisdom
Solomon has wisdom over riches and honor
God also gives us wisdom through visions & dreams
There's many ways to gain knowledge but gaining wisdom is only available through the Holy Spirit
We need to ask from God
Wisdom must be used not stored away. (keeping quiet is not active wisdom!)
3. Cast out diseases & demons
Isa 53:5
We're meant to be well & not sick
4. (to be) Strong Witnesses for God
Don't be a weak witness
2 steps to being a witness
a) Pray
praying for the souls & the salvation of others
b) Just say it!
speak into others' lives!
do not hesitate
Indeed without the Holy Spirit, we will have many difficulties doing the above 4 things on our own

Jabez 2: Prayer
1 Chr 4:9-10
Only 2 men in the entire bible that receive instant answer from God : David & Jabez
Honorable : Kabud (Heb.) great, weight, substance
Having the appetite to soak in God's presence is more important than simply coming into God's presence
We need to be spiritually hungry
1. Bless my soul - our spiritual life
2. Enlarge my territory - Our influence for God
3. Hand upon me - God's presence in our lives
4. Keep my from my enemy - God's protection over our lives
Prayer life
my prayer life will determine my destiny
Samson was the only judge that never delivered the children of Israel
Although he was also probably the most gifted
I need to be spiritually hungry

My love for God is build on my ability to wait upon the Lord

Thinking with Excellence
2 Pet 1:5-7
7 stages of Spiritual development
1. Virtue : Arete (gk.) = excellence
this word is mentioned in the bible 70 times
Excellence - to exceed a given standard that is ordinary, average, terrible or unworthy
1. To be superior in quality
Quality is never by change but a result of high intention
The call of God is always a call to excellence - never a call to mediocrity
No 2nd strike mentality
It's not about how nice but how good we are
Disorder invites even more disorder
Sol 2:15
2. Excellence is to obtain greater in quantity
Jn 15:16
cannot drop my standard
i must be willing to pay for the price of my success
Ps 126:5-6
a. demand of our heart
Pro 4:23
Lessons - geographical boundaries
every trouble? see it as stepping stone!
b. demand on our time
we can never regain time. so don't idle it away
c. demand on our money
Lk 16:11
3. Excellence is to transcend my job description
Mat 5:41
1st mile : duty
2nd mile : love
Love only begins after the demans of duty have been met
Rom 13:8
4. Excellence is to outdo myself each time
i need to be better
Excellence is to exceed expectations
Eph 6:5-6, 7-8
How to change my thinking?
Right thinking -> right behaviour
Excellence is not extremist (perfectionism)
What then is thinking with excellence?
Not Law but Liberty Gal 5:13-16
Not System but Service Mat 20:25-28
Not Self-centered but Spirit-centered Zac 4:6
Not Legalism but Love
Not Fear but Faith 2 Tim 1:6
Not Control but Concern
Not Duty but Devotion Exo 17:12
Not Getting but Giving 2 Cor 9:6-7
Not Explanation but Example Jn 13:13-15
Not Bondage but Breakthrough
Jesus turned dirty water into the best wines
So ordinary us can be used to extraordinary works!
