11/07/2010 : Weekend Service with Mike Connell

- Pst. Mike Connell

Weekend Service with Mike Connell

Luk 3:21-22; 4:1-2, 14
The wilderness in the bible was a place of barren desert
Jesus went through seasons of preparation before He was ready for His ministry

Deu 8:2-9
God lead His people to the wilderness

1. Wilderness experience is a God-idea
He lead them throughout.
It's not a destination but a preparation

2. Wilderness is a period of humbling
Time for us to seek the face of the Lord
A time when you get your promise from God
David got his Word from the Lord of his future
A period when God is looking to approve you to go to the next level
Heb 3:6
Pressure will reveal what is in our hearts

Exo 15:22-25
The first wilderness & there were 2 reactions- the children of Israel complained but Moses cried out to the Lord
The bitterness in their hearts was exposed with a little disappointment experience, although they just went through a spiritual high
Why did God do so? Because He wants to heal the bitterness in their hearts
When Jesus died on Calvary, He went through all bitterness of our lives. Only when we put our sorrows into Jesus' hands, would our bitterness in our lives be healed
God gave the children of Israel, sweet water after the bitter water

3. Wilderness is a time of making decision when we look beyond the natural
Num 14:1-3
Last wilderness of the children of Israel
Failed with flying colors - they wept with self-pity
Sometimes weeping is alright as you need to draw strength from God & let go of your torment
The disbelief in the hearts of the children of Israel was shown up during this wilderness
But when we blame others for our situation, we chose to not take responsibility for their situation
Continue to act like slave - not responsible for ourselves
God has empowered us to win in the wilderness not to sink back to the old ways

Num 14:22;24
Caleb was God's servant while the others were just "these men"
Caleb was distinguished out as someone with a different spirit
Caleb had fully followed God despite all the seemingly difficulty

Caleb - full of activity in life, provokes others with the tongue, in the household
Caleb did the following
Num 13:30
1. He hushed the negative remarks
2. He encourage the others to ascend to the next level
He asked others to give their lives as a living sacrifice to God
3. Faith
After seeing 40years of funerals, he actually ask Joshua for the hills with the giants - a man with great faith
1 Cor 10:13
God is in-charge at all times - He is not giving you wilderness so that you can shift your blame to others but to go to the next level & bring the next generation into the next level

Thus a period of wilderness is important - but we need to win it.

04/07/2010 : Weekend Service with Rev. Dr. A. R. Bernard

-Pst. AR Bernard

Weekend Service with Rev. Dr. A. R. Bernard

Growth comes to all although not in same likeness
Jam 4:1
On a universal level, conflicts is caused by human desires - without the control of the Holy Spirit (also known as flesh)
It's the relationship of the Holy Spirit or the lack of it that affects the outcome of the world
We should allow the greatest influence of our lives to come from the Holy Spirit

Christians shared values comes from having a structured life -
1. Clearly articulated world view - biblical cosmology
2. Clearly articulated core values - protects my thinking, how I experience the world
3. Clearly articulated core purposes - guides my activities, the standard that I live in

My core values is what I am willing to sacrifice for

AR Bernard's core values
1. Faith - relationship with God
2. Family - on earth, am willing to sacrifice for
3. Education - portable wealth
4. Community - be part of the solution not the problem

What we are in life is often motivated by our values
Every decision we make in life is a valued judgement
In spite of shared values- people can still have values
