22/03/2009 : Love Busters (Part A)

-Pst. Kong Hee

Love Busters (Part A)

why do couples grew unhappy with each other?usually it's because one of then has fallen out of love with the other
our relationship with God Is like a relationship between a man & a woman. - it either grows stronger or weaker.it never stays neutral
many people think that once u're in love,u don't fall out of love but if u fall out of love u will never fall in love anymore
but the truth is that God can re-ignite the love back

alot of marriages ends up in sadness or divorce
recall love bank- there's love units which can be deposit or withdrawn base on the actions of the person
love units can increased till it exceed the romantic love threshold- then the desire to marry will come in
married couples, however often does not continue to keep the love units increasing
because they forgot to keep it up
Love Busters - actions that stop the loving feeling
1 Cor 13: 4-7
abusive, controlling habits - a deliberate effort to cause your spouse to be unhappy
often the person doing it thinks that it's for the good of the other
but the receiving spouse will feel hurt by the actions then doubly hurt when he/she know it's deliberate
habit pattern- you are repeating it regularly
usually in a marriage - there's a giver and a taker lover
a taker will fight to hurt the other person
in a state of intimacy, the giver is in control- love will exist
in a state of conflict, the taker is in control- fights will exist- then withdrawal will occur.
couples then want to live separately
there're 6 love busters
1. Selfish Demands
love is not demanding its own way
policy of joint agreement- never do anything without an enthusiastic agreement between you & your spouse
instead of selfish demands- go for thoughtful requests
appreciate each others' opinions & feelings
2. Disrespectful Judgements
using threats & ridicule to hurt the other party
instead of disrespectful judgements- go for respectful persuasion
be open for prospects that we could be wrong
no point of winning an argument but losing the love
if things don't work out- then drop until another day!
solving the conflicts is not the main deal, instead seek to not withdraw your love units
be ready to accept that you can be demanding- it all depends on the other's opinions of you not yourself.
3. Angry Outbursts
according to NIV, love is not easily angered- you never get angry
usually the 1st 3 love busters is consequential
outburst aims to punish or even the score
a. acknowledge it if you have an anger problem
b. recognise that you're out to Punish
c. remember the policy of joint agreement
d. avoid love buster 1 & 2
don't be afraid to have zero tolerance for the love busters

the transformation of the cities and nations through the redeemption of the marketplace
1 John 3:8b
the marketplace is the combination of business, education and government
God always talk about earth issues when He meet His people not heaven
68 of the 69 miracles of Acts happened in the marketplace
God love the world- John 3:16
Jesus was born in a hotel, the 1st people who greeted Him were businessmen. Jesus was involved in His family business
the marketplace is the heart of the city or region
if we want to change anything effectively we need to change its heart = marketplace
is it possible? is it biblical?
Luke 19:10
Jesus was here to save more than just people
but also what was lost

02/11/2008 : Manifestation

-Pst. Kong Hee

Manifestation

Faith does not come by what I heard before but y what I’m hearing
Pro 13:12 – we can get discouraged when our hope is slowed down
Biblical manifestation in ts simplest form:
logos becomes rehma
written word becomes living word
Highest form: Jh 1:14 – the word becomes flesh
Written word becomes a living reality
Living the word 24/7
Yet not hard to do -> Gen 1 -> God spoke forth creation
Today -> we get born again in the Lord
Miracles healing, tongues-speaking, etc.
Unlike other creatures -> there’s no ending to the study of man.
Before the start of us, there’s the study of God as we’re made in the image of Him
How do we know?
E.g. innate within us, there’s moral - > all us know that it’s immoral to put a creature in an environment that is contrary to its basic nature
Lk 1:26-38 -> mary gave an unusual response
She was willing to be with child without a husband!
But God always work by the unusual response
For every biblical manifestation, there is always an unusually response
We won’t change our lives until we decide to be different
Had to shake the very core of our being for the change we want to see
E.g. Pst. Kong Hee -> church worker – normal way
God’s way – businessman!
Can I make an unusual response?
Do I desire a change? So do I desire a breakthrough?
Breakthrough: a sudden burst of power that takes you past the previous point of resistance.
What do you need today to bring you to the breakthrough?

11/10/2008 : Creativity, Shortages & Scarcity

- Pst. Kong Hee

Creativity, Shortages & Scarcity

Exo 3:13
i am = yahweh (heb) jehovah
Exo 6:1-2
God Almighty = el shaddai (heb) - redeemer or restorer
Moses was to show God's wishes to redeem His people
Jesus = yeshua - redeemer cum restorer
Mat 19:1-4; 4-8
Jesus' reference point is always from the beginning
Gen 1:1
Elohim - creative God
God wants to bring us back to our creativity.
if Adam didn't sin, God would never ever have to reveal Himself is the redeemer
Thus God actually only meant for Himself to let us be fruitful
thus despite recession or whatever God is never even worried as He's a creator - He just create new resources
2007 survey of energy resources
resources is never in lacking - it's a matter of having the right technology in the right place.
food is also not in shortage it's about bad politics, selfishness & basically mismanagement of the resources
there's no lacking of resources but lacking of visions and dreams to get them
Gen 26:1-6; 12
Isaac went searching for wells during the recession - he didn't just cry for rain from God
v.25 Isaac prayed, cared for family then disciple his workers

Life and Light II

We're spirit-man with a moral-likeness like God.
Gen 3:1-3;4-5;11-12
man and woman was made to work in a pair
Gen 3:14-16 (NLT)
Woman's desire for man doesn't meant that the woman will love him but it simply means that she'll want to push him to do stuff
God created man to have dominion over earth but after man sin, man and woman then desire to dominate each other
Unlike Adam, Jesus did everything that Adam failed to fulfill. Adam was supposed to have a meaningful relationship with Eve. They're supposed to married and be each other's partners. However Adam failed to be a good groom.
Jesus was the groom for the church, thus as long as the church does not fight Jesus, the relationship will continue to grow, as originally planned for Adam and Eve.

Adam 930years Gen 5:5
Seth 912years Gen 5:8
Enosh 905years Gen 5:11
Noah 950years Gen 9:29

Jhn 15:5

Jhn 3:3-6 (NLT)
Once we're baptised in the Holy Spirit, we'll have the gifts of the Holy Spirit, tools, and thus we'll have wisdom to do God's works
only the Holy Spirit
2 Cor 5:16
Regard = to see, to consider
Heb 5:13-15

Jhn 1:1-5; 20:30-31

Acts 1:8
The power(s) of the Holy Spirit
1. Build good relationship with others
He will help us to love others (even people that you usually dislike)
Help us to recognise the grace others have shown us
Col 6:9
God does not want us to keep our hates within ourselves - it will only make us sick

2. (give us) Heavenly Wisdom
Solomon has wisdom over riches and honor
God also gives us wisdom through visions & dreams
There's many ways to gain knowledge but gaining wisdom is only available through the Holy Spirit
We need to ask from God
Wisdom must be used not stored away. (keeping quiet is not active wisdom!)

3. Cast out diseases & demons
Isa 53:5
We're meant to be well & not sick

4. (to be) Strong Witnesses for God
Don't be a weak witness
2 steps to being a witness
a) Pray
praying for the souls & the salvation of others
b) Just say it!
speak into others' lives!
do not hesitate

Indeed without the Holy Spirit, we will have many difficulties doing the above 4 things on our own

13/04/2008 : Jabez 2 : Prayer

-Pst. Kong Hee

Jabez 2: Prayer

1 Chr 4:9-10
Only 2 men in the entire bible that receive instant answer from God : David & Jabez
Honorable : Kabud (Heb.) great, weight, substance
Having the appetite to soak in God's presence is more important than simply coming into God's presence
We need to be spiritually hungry

1. Bless my soul - our spiritual life
2. Enlarge my territory - Our influence for God
3. Hand upon me - God's presence in our lives
4. Keep my from my enemy - God's protection over our lives

Prayer life
my prayer life will determine my destiny
Samson was the only judge that never delivered the children of Israel
Although he was also probably the most gifted
I need to be spiritually hungry

05/04/2008 : Thinking with Excellence

- Pst. Tan Ye Peng

Thinking with Excellence

2 Pet 1:5-7
7 stages of Spiritual development
1. Virtue : Arete (gk.) = excellence
this word is mentioned in the bible 70 times
Excellence - to exceed a given standard that is ordinary, average, terrible or unworthy

1. To be superior in quality
Quality is never by change but a result of high intention
The call of God is always a call to excellence - never a call to mediocrity
No 2nd strike mentality
It's not about how nice but how good we are
Disorder invites even more disorder
Sol 2:15
2. Excellence is to obtain greater in quantity
Jn 15:16
cannot drop my standard
i must be willing to pay for the price of my success
Ps 126:5-6
a. demand of our heart
Pro 4:23
Lessons - geographical boundaries
every trouble? see it as stepping stone!
b. demand on our time
we can never regain time. so don't idle it away
c. demand on our money
Lk 16:11
3. Excellence is to transcend my job description
Mat 5:41
1st mile : duty
2nd mile : love
Love only begins after the demans of duty have been met
Rom 13:8
4. Excellence is to outdo myself each time
i need to be better
Excellence is to exceed expectations
Eph 6:5-6, 7-8
How to change my thinking?
Right thinking -> right behaviour
Excellence is not extremist (perfectionism)

What then is thinking with excellence?

Not Law but Liberty Gal 5:13-16
Not System but Service Mat 20:25-28
Not Self-centered but Spirit-centered Zac 4:6
Not Legalism but Love
Not Fear but Faith 2 Tim 1:6
Not Control but Concern
Not Duty but Devotion Exo 17:12
Not Getting but Giving 2 Cor 9:6-7

Right Decision - Your Keys to Success

Jam 1:5-8
A survey done revealed that criminals thought that successful people are simply people who are 'not caught' while successful people rendered their success as a result of hard work, being responsible & no good luck belief
To get where you want to go in life, we much start where we are
Decision, Dedication & Decisiveness is the quality needed to bring change
Opposite of decisiveness = Ambivalence will bring us to our inability to breakthrough
Jam 4:17
Ps 119:113
Procrastination - lack of sense of urgency
Some areas of focus we need to have include
Health
Ability
Relationships
Vision
Emotional Life
Spiritual Life
Though Life

yet man procrastinate...why?
1. Task - difficult
2. Fear of the unknown
3. Lazy!

How then can we overcome?
1. Activate my planner
Write it down & prioritise!
2. Break large tasks
Do them 1-by-1
3. Create deadlines
Be specific!
4. Deal with the mess
-always decide what need to be filed, throw or be executed?
5. Encourage myself
I can do it. It's never too late.
6. Face your fears
Do the harder tasks first
7. Do goals review
Go through the check lists!
8. Hang on & don't give up!
Success doesn't come suddenly
9. Initiate now
Start today

The Power of Forgiveness

Lk 23:33-34
Jesus was harshly trested when He's on His way to the cross

Guilt => Actions
1. Shame robs you out of the motivation to seek love
2. Shame robs you of healthy relationships
3. Shame causes anger & depression

Keys to Promotion

Servant Hood II
Mat 20:25-27
God only labeled us as good servants & not any other titles
So it’s not about being top (in name) but in our attitude
Ps 71:21
We can be great, because this will bring God glory…
Yet in the spiritual realm, we need to serve
Servant = Gk. Dirkopnos – Still a free soul
Slave = Gk. Doulos – not free
3 keys to promotion

Servanthood Part A

Jn 13:2-5
Power, position, purpose
Jesus is fully aware that His 11 disciples will prove themselves imperfect in the time to come. Yet He is still secured in His power, position & purpose. He will not be wavered.
This sense show that none of the disciples serve each other before the supper (which is usually the custom – the one who serve is of the subordinate position & none of the disciples are willing to lower themselves.
But Jesus served…not serving out of fear or to score points
Jn 13:12-17
Are we ready to serve with all of our hearts?
It’s not a about others but how we see it
1. Servant hood is the key to promotion
Phil 2:5-7; 8-11; 12-15
Joseph: his circumstances have never ever been prefect yet it has never has any impact upon his character
2. Servant hood is the key to Authority

The Supernatural Ministry

Mat 14:22-23
Jesus’ ministry is based on the supernatural
Jesus had no fear unlike Peter
All of us have fears & this is normal
Only when we know Jesus intimately then can we have no unnatural fear towards God
God will take the fear of punishment/supernatural away
Jesus was here to show us that we can live a righteous life just like Him
Jesus is here to let us inherit Him
He does not want us to stay in the boat
We need to have the courage to move out
Jesus is a good God; He knows the disciples’ fears thus He always encouraged them,” Be of good cheer!”
Jesus’ plans often offered anxiety & unknown to His people. He wants us to be willing& to trust Him
The people in the boat, who’re actually disciples, will mock & teased, as not every disciple will be willing
But God is not interested in changing our circumstances but us!
God wants us to be overcomers
After all, allowing ourselves to be thrown into something extraordinary is either because we’re stupid or because we know we’ve God on our side
To be ready for tomorrow, we need to be ready today
Heb 2:14-15
Death => the fear of it comes from the aftermath. Satan’s only weapon comes from that
We worried about being rejected/ cast away

John Stephen Akhwari’s story

John Stephen Akhwari (b. 1938? in Mbulu, Tanganyika) was an Olympic athlete at the 1968 Summer Olympicsin Mexico City. He represented Tanzania in the marathon. During the race he fell, badly cutting his knee and dislocating the joint. Rather than quitting, he continued running. He finished last among the 74 competitors. When asked why he continued running, he said simply, "My country did not send me to Mexico City to start the race. They sent me to finish." There was an article written up in Delta's Sky Magazine. Akhwari has lent his name to the John Stephen Akhwari Athletic Foundation, an organization which supports Tanzanian athletes training for the Olympic Games. His story is featued in the Beijing 2008 Song Hero.

Your Redemption Value in God

Understanding the wisdom of Jesus
We need to come to know who God really is?
How? By coming to us in the form of Christ.
Christ – Shepherd
We? – Sheep!
Gen 4:19 - 20 (NLY v.2)
Background of this verse : - the capacity of man has been revealed and given to Adam. But he fall before he was able to experience his capacity
Yet we need to know that Fallen is not equivalent to the fact that our capacity has been taken away
Thus it has to be redeemed by Christ
Redeemed as God does not waste anything
He doesn’t just throw us away after Adam has fallen
We can still open-up our capacity to multiple, be fruitful, subdue & have dominance
Adam (fallen) = Corrupt & Perverted -> Cain (Evil) Vs Abel (Good)
Cain – City (Social Construct) -> Livestock (Poultry industry) -> Flute & Harp (Inventions) -> Tools (mining, purification & molding of metals?
Even though Cain, which represented the evil side of man, survived instead of Abel, but his capacity was not taken away. In fact the above showed that the entire human society has been build. Man is not merely monkeys.
Saving grace -> brings us out, change us & send us again to the social institutions
God’s mission is about redeeming the value within me
We should not be asking “What am I here for?”
Instead our life’s purpose should be built on “Who am I here for?”
We’re saved so that others can be saved
Separated from the world is not isolation from the world
Recall: Kristos Kas Kosmos
Culture [fallen] but redeemable
Because the Holy Spirit has been poured onto ALL man
There is value even in junk, which explains the existence of the junkyard -> value of junk can be seen there & what it eventually can become
Am I ready to be cleansed?
God will save the best for the last.
All creation is waiting for the full revelation of God
So we need to continue to learn, grow & increase!

13/01/2008 : Forgiveness (Letting go)

- Pst Tan Ye Peng

Forgiveness (Letting go)

Col 3:13
What is forgiveness?
Doesn't change your past but it will enlarge your future
1. Real forgiveness is unconditional
2. Forgiveness does not minimize the seriousness of the offense
Do not cheapen the forgiveness by joking about it
Pro 26:18-19
3. Forgiveness isn't resuming a relationship without expecting a change
Forgiveness is given from the offended while reconciliation is only possible from the offender
The offender must have the following
- Repentance
- Restitution
- Rebuilding trust
4. Forgiveness isn't forgetting what has happened
Focus on something else!
5. Forgiveness isn't my right when I wasn't the one hurt

Why do we forgive people?
We will never see something until we see value in it
Because God has a greater & better future for me in my life & without letting go of my past, I can never embrace my future
Do not let resentment & bitterness consume you!
Life is 10% "what happened" & 90% how we react to it
We will react based on our values
How do we know our values?
1. What is most important to me
2. What do I stand for
3. And what I am willing to pay the price for
Heb 12:16-17
We need to know what should be our values like the back of our hands
If we judge what we value by our circumstances, we will de-value want is important to give value to what is momentary
We need to build our values on God's principles so that we will not be ruled by our circumstances.
Hey 12:15
How do I forgive people?
1. Give up my right to get even
2. Set boundaries - walls with a gate
3. Respond evil with good
Lk 6:27-28
4. Repeating these steps as long as necessary
Forgiveness is not a 1-time event
Forgive & remember (how God turn it for you - because we can only be thankful when we remember what God has done for us)

Phil 3:13-14

Lk 14:28-31

29/12/2007 : Change Is Necessary For Growth

-Pst. Tan Ye Peng

Change is Neccessary for Growth

Mat 18:1-4 (NIV)
Change is necessary for growth
Repent is Jesus’ ministry message
Change in the direction, action and eventually my destiny will too be changed in the manner I want to be
Change will be ever constant throughout our life
We change clothes, looks, jobs, friends & etc.
Every living thing experiences change
Repent = change of my mind
Re -> go back to something
Pent -> highest place (of thinking)
God’s thoughts: highest form
è Lay hold of God’s promises for me.
è No change? No growth.
Greatest enemy of change is tradition
e.g. Fosbury flop; Pepsico
All are changes made for the better
Disciples of Jesus also adapt to changes to turn into somebody different
Luk 19
Do I know my changes? Increasingly I need to know my change
Transformation is a necessity
All changes begins with a decision
- Dedication to the decision
- Disciple to the dedication
Any areas that we need to change?
What will stop us from changing?
1. Pride
2. Fear
3. Rebellion
4. Laziness
5. Ignorance
Denial will not bring us anywhere
Only fools and dead man don’t change
Fools refuse to change while dead man can’t
When change is necessary, not to change is destructive
Pro 1:20-23*-24;5
4 kinds of people are mention in the above verse
1. Simpletons
2. Fools
3. Scorners
4. Wise men
We all start out as simpletons, and then we can either choose to be a fool or a wise man. Be a fool for too long and u will then become a scorner.
Don’t find yourself changing due to a crisis.
Either you lead the change or the change will lead you.
If I let change lead me, it will lead me to a place where I do not want to go
My ability to lead the change will determine my success in life

But worries does not add to our lives
No faith = no confidence
Unable to move
It is not self-confidence but faith confidence
Mk 11:22
Jh 15:4-5
There's no life in the branch of the great vine unlike other trees.
Other trees can continue to grow when cut off from the trunk & continued to be cultivated to grow
There're many promises of God which God promises to strengthen us but we need to stay on His covenant
Gen 3:6-7
Adam was surrounded by many dangerous animals & the only protection that God gave him is his mind
Hold the revelation & vision in our spirit but the ideas in our minds
1. No feeling of inferiority
2. No sense of adequacy
3. No fear or apprehension to stand up to God's platform for you

Gen 18:13-14
It may be possible that we will laugh at God’s promises for us just like Sarah

It’s never about God not able to do it but rather us who is full of disbelief which stopped God
The spirit of the world is fill with negative & our carnal self tends to be drawn by the world

Truth #2 “Whatever God has said it, it will be done”
Isa 14:26-27
Look at Jesus’ life, there may be obstacles & difficulties but did anything ever stop Him (except for unbelief from others?)

No Cross? No Crown.

Truth #3 Encourage others to dream God’s dream
God’s attention is always to the insignificant
Don’t be a dream killer
Ignore dream killers
Don’t harbor up on unforgiveness!
Release it.
Mat 27:33
Gall was given to Jesus so as to put bitterness in His life
But Jesus refused to go to the Cross with bitterness in His life
Exo 15:23;27
Only 1 decision is needed to move from bitterness to sweetness in life

10/11/2007 : Can you go the Distance?

-Pst. Matthew Foo

Can you go the Distance?

Is your capacity sufficient for the journey?
It’s going to be exciting but will be with hard work as well.
Look at Peter, he led an exciting life but it is filled with hard work as well.
So what is needed for us to go the distance?
Matt 16: 13-18
1. It’s not about what others thing or say.
Matt 16:15
Peers – encourage errors, rudeness & stupidity
We can live our lives for different people & difference reason.
But we need to know who really matters?
God!!!
Jesus is interested in me!

2. I must have a personal conviction of Jesus Christ
Matt 16:16
It’s easy to be part of a herd but when you’re alone, will you still be able to hang-on?
How then to have a personal encounter of Jesus?
i. Never say “No” the 1st time
ii. Just do it
iii. Know the word of God
If we study the word of God, the God of the word will come through for us.
3. I need to have a personal conviction of myself.
Mat 16:18
Peter – Petros (Gk.) – Small Rock
Pejra (Gk) – Big rock

Eventually this personal revelation about himself put Peter into the long-lasting journey with God

- Pst. Tan Ye Peng

Making a difference

Lk 5:1-3
Find a need & meet it
Find a hurt & heal it
Lk 5:10;
Jesus identified Himself with our fallen humanity
To win souls, we need to take risks
Engaging the world put the engager in the risk of being criticized.
If Jesus was being questioned by John the Baptist, He must be involved in some very controversial activities
Act 10:19-20
The mission of God is to get down onto the streets
God didn't left a picture of Himself to the world because He has left the job of His image to the church

Spiritual Gap & Love Disparity

Don't widen it
We need to give people time to change
Right weapons but wrong battlefield?

13/10/2007 : Reality as a limiter of life

- Pst. Kong Hee

Reality as a limiter of life

2 Cor 4:18
What is reality? – In the usual situation: what we can see, a fact, the realm of possibilities, etc.
However reality is usually temporal. It is subjected to changes.
Circumstance: made up of 2 words: Circle & Standing
The above gives us the definition: that we’re all standing in the circle of events – different life cycles (which all will come to pass & move on)
Thus it’s important that we anchor ourselves to the Lord as He is the only unchanging thing in the world.
Then when we anchor ourselves to God, we will then move into God’s best for our lives.
Will we be stopped /stumped by the things that we can see?
It’s important that we step out of such circumstances
Pro 23:6
Example: If we ever had a private jet, our reality tells us that we need to get into a car, drive for an hour to the nearest private airport to get into our private jet.
However for Shekih Mohammed (Ruler of Dubai), he could get into his helicopter to ride to the airport.
Yet in fact, he could also build a private airport right next to his house & simply walked into his jet.
Thus! Reality is not fixed!
Our reality is affected by economics
Our economics can be changed by us.
Conclusion: our reality can only be limited by ourselves -> dealing in the realm of the impossibilities.
Do you dare to move forward?
Pro 23:7
Prosperity is not in our bank statement but in the state of our minds
Gen 39:1-2 (KJV)
Joseph was a prosperous man
Scarcity thinking = crisis in your faith
Example: there were tons of reports during the 1980s-1990s that our energy resources will be depleted in 10, 20, 30 or 40 years time.
However as of the 2007 survey done by the World Energy Council; it was concluded that there’s no sign of any energy shortage in the whole world.
The cost of staple food has dropped by half in the last 10yrs.
God is still in control and has provided for the entire world.
The only reason that there’s any shortage in the world is usually a result of corruption, mis-management of the country than anything else.
Thus we do not need the scarcity mindset.
Fact: Bloomberg – there’re 2.3 new millionaires in Asia (2006)
Singapore enjoyed the highest increase: 22.3% in 2006
Pro 4:23
Issues are merely a physical boundary of our lives
God is never limited by our circumstances & neither should we.
Our reality is impacted by our financial position.
However we need to learn not to move in the realm of information but rather revelation.
Jn 3:12-13
Rom 10:10-12; 14-15
